Last week our Year 5 pupils joined with other year 5 classes from some of the smaller HMFA schools for a residential to Birmingham. Day one was filled with a trip to The Mailbox BBC studios and a behind the scenes tour of Midlands Today, The Archers and many more TV programmes with lots of information on how both radio and online productions are created and brought to life on TV, radio and iPad. After a meal at Pizza Express the children enjoyed an evening performance of ‘Thriller Live!’ at the wonderful Alexandra Theatre.

After quite a short night’s sleep at the hotel (!) the children enjoyed a second day visiting ‘Thinktank’, Birmingham Science Museum.  The children were able to see steam engines through to talking robots, gurgling guts and a chocolate wrapping machine. There were over 200 hands-on exhibits to explore!  After a packed lunch the final afternoon was spent at Cadbury World where the children took part in a tour and talk about the heritage of the nation’s favourite chocolate brand; including chocolate making and a 4D chocolate cinema experience, in fact anything chocolate.

Whilst at BBC Birmingham the children had an opportunity to record a radio drama and enhance it with sound effects. We have attached the recording HERE for you to enjoy.
