Class 3’s theme this term is ‘India’.
This term in English we will be concentrating on writing stories from other cultures, information texts and persuasive writing. We will look at examples of each, concentrate on what features are included and will then ensure that these are included in our work. We will also continue to focus on daily basic skills, spellings and comprehension.
This term in Maths we will be focussing on:
– Measures (converting between units of time, weight, distance, capacity);
– Geometry (properties of shape, calculating perimeter and area, angles, symmetry);
– Statistics (collecting, presenting and interpreting a range of data);
This will all be done through reasoning and problem solving activities, alongside our daily basic skills.
Our science topic this term is states of matter. We will be looking at solids, liquids and gases and their properties, how states of matter can change and how changes in states of matter fit into the water cycle. The children will be doing this through designing and carrying out experiments, as well as presenting data and evaluating.
Our Art this term will be heavily focussed around India. We will be looking at texture and textiles. We will try:
– Block printing
– Sewing
– Rangoli patterns
– Henna designs
In Computing we will be looking at internet safety and will be doing some coding.
In Geography we will be looking at the UK, covering how the UK is split up and geographical features. We will also be comparing the UK to India.
In History we will be studying local history, focussing on the history of Herefordshire.
In Music we will be looking at rhythm, tempo and performing as part of a group this term. We will also be looking at bhangra music as part of our India topic.
In MFL we will be looking at food and eating in French.
In PE the children will be developing strength, flexibility, technique, control and balance through gymnastics and dance.
In RE we will be looking at Hinduism and in PSHE we will link to the values we follow as a school and some lessons will be delivered through Philosophy for Children. We will also be looking at protective behaviours.
