Today (7th Feb 2023) is ‘Safer Internet Day’, a day co-ordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre. thousands of schools and organisations get involved to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology and young people.

In the UK we are celebrating by putting children and young people’s voices at the heart of the day and encouraging them to shape the online safety support that they need.

This year the day hopes to answer the following questions:

We began the day with a whole school assembly where we explored issues surrounding internet usage and gave children the opportunity to share and discuss their experiences of using the world wide web. We discussed how widely the internet is used around the world together with the issues and difficulties that can and do arise from such a vast innovation.

During the day the individual classes will be undertaking activities such as role play and games which look at differing scenarios and which facilitate further discussion.

Children in years 4, 5 and 6 will be given the opportunity to apply for and become a ‘Digital Leader’. We are looking for children who:
