Class 1 have been busy learning all about how canals were built and what they were used for in the past.  They have compared this with what they are mainly used for today.

The children have been developing their reading and recognition of sounds they have been taught. They are now able to read and enjoy more complex texts, discussing these in guided reading.

Year 1 have looked at ways to improve sentences and looked at how authors can create more interesting stories. They have looked at different word choices and even explored language used in the past.

The class have listened to and read stories based around the theme of water and are currently reading the Bog Baby.

In maths the children have looked at place value in Year 1 and considered the ways an awareness of place value allows them to make calculations and solve problems.  In reception the children have combined amounts to find totals. In addition they have been considering sharing an amount equally.

As part of our science investigations we have looked at how water can be displaced by objects and conducted an experiment to measure this.
