Dear Parents,

I’m sure, like me, many of you will have watched the Prime Minister’s address to the nation this evening.

You will have heard the Prime Minister indicating that the Government believes it may be in a position to implement a phased re-opening of schools from 1 June, starting with pupils in Reception, Year one and Year six.  This is part of the Government’s conditional plan which it says will remain under regular review.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Sunday that primary schools in England might start to reopen from 1 June at the earliest. Any reopening would be conditional on the R rate and number of new infections staying low.

Schools across the Federation are working together and are giving very careful consideration to how this will be managed within each setting. In the coming days we will be working to:

  • gain a better understanding of the details of the Government’s plan.
  • carry out detailed risk assessment for both pupils and staff.

Over recent weeks, we have been responding to an ever-changing situation and this appears to be something that we will continue to do for some time to come.

IF the R rate (infection rate) continues to decrease and the Government confirms that schools will begin a phased return, I want to reassure you that we will have a full plan for the continued safety of your children and our staff.

While all of us will have many questions this evening, I do want to finish by reminding everyone that nothing will change immediately;

“And I must stress again all of this is conditional, it all depends on a series of big ifs.”

Boris Johnson May 2020

We will continue with our current provision for children of key workers who are unable to arrange alternative childcare.  At this point in time, we are continuing to accept children only of key workers.

There will be no firm plans confirmed until much nearer the time but we will keep parents informed of how this next phase will be managed.

Until then, the message from us remains the same, stay safe and where possible, stay at home.

Take care

Jamie Gittins

Head of School
