On Tuesday afternoon the whole school visited Pennoxstone Court Farm to see the strawberry supply chain for themselves. After understanding how the fruit is grown, the children were shown the whole process of how strawberries are picked taken from the field, through quality control and packaging to distribution to shops and supermarkets. We learned that the strawberries packed in our village have to travel to a central supply hub in Bristol and other large cities before they are distributed onwards to their final destinations. This means in some cases that the fruit is unfortunately driven many miles out of the county before returning to it.
Pennoxstone were kind enough to donate strawberries and raspberries to the school for our Sports Day the following day – thank you Pennoxstone!
