Hereford Food Bank is an independent run local charity which exists to provide food supplies to Herefordshire residents who need help because of an emergency. Many people are experiencing a change of circumstances because of COVID and this is classed as an emergency by the food bank. The food bank does not judge and they do not disclose names or circumstances to anyone else. They do not deliver in marked vehicles and they use ordinary supermarket bags. They try to be as discreet as possible. Between Monday and Friday, a parcel will be made available within 24hrs of request.

Applicants are requested to seek help via an approved agency – either the school, GP, health care professional, senior members of local churches or other religious establishments, social workers or other professional support and care workers. Applicants will need to provide their name, address, postcode and a contact number so that a delivery can be made. The food bank will need to know the make-up of the applicants family, including children’s ages and any special requirements such as allergies or nappy sizes. They would need an outline of the problem that makes the applicants finances currently difficult, together with a brief description of the cooking facilities available and if there are any pets.

If a claim meets the criteria (and most claims do) then the food bank tries to provide the materials for 3 meals per day per person for 7 days.
