We are excited to let you know about a fantastic competition that has just been launched by Ledbury Poetry!
Herefordshire Libraries are delighted to be working in partnership with Ledbury Poetry on ‘Earthwords’, a poetry competition launched just this week. It gives young writers the opportunity to explore the natural world and our precious environment through poetry.
The winners will be invited to perform at Ledbury Poetry Festival on Saturday 1st July, hosted by the Waterstones Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho himself! It’s the first time a poet has been the Children’s Laureate and we are all thrilled he will be joining us for this special occasion.
The competition is open to anyone living in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire and entries will be divided into primary and secondary ages, 5-11yrs and 12-18yrs. It is open from 27th February to 28th April 2023 and poems can be entered online at www.ledburypoetry.org.uk It will be judged by Librarians from Herefordshire Libraries and by Chloe Garner, Director of Ledbury Poetry. The top ten poets will be invited to perform their work at Ledbury Poetry Festival on Saturday 1st July. The Waterstones Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho, will award certificates to the winners live at the event.
To support all your wonderful young writers, we will be running four fantastic FREE poetry writing workshops at our libraries in Hereford, Ledbury, Leominster and Ross-on-Wye during the Easter holidays for 11-18yrs. Leading poets Jonny Fluffypunk and Jean Atkin will focus on the themes of the competition and enhance writing skills in a fun and relaxed environment. Further details of each workshop and how to book can be found on our Eventbrite pages Herefordshire Libraries Events | Eventbrite Within participating libraries, we will also be recommending inspirational books through our ‘Earthworks’ displays.
