In maths, pupils have been busy estimating and measuring length. Â They have selected the appropriate tool for the job and have measured distances to the nearest 1/2 cm or metre, before comparing and ordering the measurements. Â They have recorded this data in mixed units and children have had experience of calculating the perimeter of objects both inside and outside of the classroom. Â They will move on to studying 3D shape next.
In English, children have looked at alternative words for ‘said’ and identified the role of inverted commas in stories.  They have written dialogue appropriate to our model text and explored how adverbs can help to describe how a character is feeling.
In topic, children have learnt about the Roman legion and what soldiers wore in battle.  Pupils have made their own shields in the style of the period and will study Roman roads next, including the construction of Hadrian’s wall.
In science, pupils have started to look at the physical characteristics of rocks and used appropriate words to describe their appearance. Â They will later identify certain rocks as either igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic.
In RE, children have explored the Islamic place of worship and have identified some key features inside.
