In maths, children have continued to solve multiplication and division word problems. Â Year twos have focussed on writing related multiplication and division facts, while year threes have learnt written methods for multiplication and division (namely the grid and bus stop). Â Pupils have recapped odds and evens, as well as identifying the inverse relationship between multiplication and division. Â Children continue to learn their times tables and weekly tests show the progress that pupils are making in this very important area of maths.
In English, children have sequenced and improved instructions. Â They have identified sentence types (command and question), bossy verbs and adverbs. Â Pupils have also worked on using apostrophes correctly in sentences to show possession. Â Children will move on to writing an instruction text altogether as a class on making a cup of tea, before inventing one of their own. Â We have had a focus on SPAG this half term and pupils will now develop these skills further when integrating them in their written work.
In science, pupils have studied how fossils are formed and what they tell us about the past. Â They will now look at different soil types and what soil is made from.
In topic, pupils have studied the physical landscape of the polar regions and investigated the climate of these hostile environments by writing postcards to send back home which describe what they see, hear etc. Â Children will move on to building igloos out of different materials and conducting an iceberg experiment.
In RE, children have looked at sacred texts and what we can learn from the stories of the Bible. Â We will focus next on the importance that communities play in society today.
In computing, pupils have engaged in more coding activities using BeeBot and Blue-Bot. Â Children will research fascinating facts about igloos in the forthcoming weeks to help in their IPAD presentations
