In maths, children have been learning about fractions. Â Year two pupils have identified and written fractions of a whole, recognised equivalents to one half and calculated fractions of amounts. Â They will finish by solving word problems on fractions, drawing on all of their previous learning over the past couple of weeks. Year three pupils have identified and written fractions of a whole, located the position of fractions on number lines, recognised when a whole has been split into ten pieces and how each represents a tenth and ordered fractions from smallest to largest and vice verse involving fractions with the same denominator and then a different denominator. Â They will move on to equivalents next and calculating fractions of amounts. Â Children continue with basic skills every morning and weekly times table tests on a Monday afternoon.
In English, children have been learning the class story ‘Nail Soup’. We have focussed on recognising whether sentences are missing a full stop, question or exclamation mark and completed chunks of text using the most appropriate conjunction. We will focus on how to build description and suspense in a story to create a mood. Â Children continue with weekly handwriting and reading comprehension lessons in class, as well as guided reading. Â Spelling tests remain on a Tuesday.
In science, pupils have been looking at materials. They have investigated how some materials can change after bending, twisting etc. Â Children have written up an experiment to decide which material is suitable to keep a teddy bear dry and why. Â They have tested the materials themselves, made predictions, conducted a fair test, written their results and analysed the findings.
In topic, children have learnt about the famous pharaoh Tutankhamun. They researched key events in his life and wrote a diary entry from the perspective of Howard Carter, the person who found his remains, when he entered the tomb and realised that he had stumbled on one of the greatest archeological finds of all time.
In Spanish, children continue to learn vocabulary for their fashion show.
