In maths, children have been developing their mental addition skills and solving word problems by recalling familiar addition facts. They have used written methods to add larger numbers also. Children have moved on to mental subtraction this week and will look at how written methods are useful when finding the difference between two larger numbers.
In English, pupils have innovated the model text ‘The Manchester Ridgeback Dragon’ and have started to write their information text on a new type of dragon which they themselves have invented.  Children have focussed on how their writing needs to be organised on the page and how to include the features of information writing in their own work.  Pupils have also looked at identifying verbs in sentences and how the correct tense needs to be used for what they wish to say.
In science, children have investigated how different materials are all around us and commented on how some objects can be made from more than one material, depending on its use. Â Pupils have investigated how some objects can change shape when a particular force is applied and why, whereas other materials do not change at all.
In topic, children have created beautiful landscapes of the Northern Lights using pastels and blending. Â Pupils will begin to look at igloo designs next.
In PSHE, pupils have discussed what qualities make a good friend and how they can be an even better friend.
In RE, children have identified the importance of Ramadan for Muslims and why this month is so important to followers. Pupils will move on to the signs and symbols associated with this religion next.
In French, children have practised pronouncing vocabulary associated with healthy eating.Â
