In maths, children have been investigating lines of symmetry in various shapes and patterns.  They have created a symmetrical picture of their own and/or identified lines of symmetry on different flags of the world.  Pupils have moved on to recalling basic number bonds to 10, 20, 100 and 1000 and calculated how we can add multiple numbers using rapid recall of these facts. Children will move on to mental addition next.

In English, children have identified and explored the features of information writing and will create a text map of a good example.  Pupils have studied how verbs can change, depending on their tense and how we want to use them in sentences.

In science, pupils have identified the five different food groups and why each are important in maintaining a healthy diet.  We have looked at how too much sugar and salt is bad for our bodies and how we can change our diet to improve our general well being.  Children have also made food chains indicative to a Polar Regions habitat, identifying which animals are the prey and which animals are the predators.

In PSHE, children have participated in a road safety workshop and designed a pair of ‘odd socks’ to reflect the national anti – bullying campaign.

In topic, pupils have explored the Northern Lights phenomena and where they are seen in the world.  Children have written their own Northern Lights poetry to reflect on their colours and movement in the sky.

In art, children have used pastels to create their own interpretation of the aurora borealis.

In computing, children have continued their research on a Polar Regions animal of their choice in order to, later on in the term, write an information text on it.
