The Reading Agency and Herefordshire Libraries present Space Chase, Summer Reading Challenge 2019 – an out-of-this-world adventure for children up to the age of 12. The mission is to read six library books over the school summer holidays.  As children read their books, they will collect special stickers (including some stinky ones!) to complete their mission folder and receive rewards.  Any book or eBook from Herefordshire Libraries can be read for the challenge – from fiction to fact books, joke books to poetry.

Children’s reading can ‘dip’ over the summer if they don’t have access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure, and this can have a negative impact on their work once they return to school.

Design a Space Alien art competition

Herefordshire Libraries has launched a free competition for 4-12 year olds to design their own larger than life space character. There will be a winner announced in each of the four categories with a chance to win a bumper pack of art materials: under 4s, age 4-6, age 7-9 and age 10-12.

For school competition entries, please write the pupil’s name, school and school year clearly on the back of each entry. Parents can hand the original artwork to your nearest library in person or by post to Herefordshire Libraries (art competition), Merchant House, Burcott Road, Hereford HR4 9LW.

Design a Space Alien art competition entry details and terms and conditions can be viewed on the Summer Reading Challenge webpage.

The Space Chase, Summer Reading Challenge 2019 will prepare for lift off across all Herefordshire libraries on Saturday 13 July.
