The children in Class 1 had a lovely surprise this morning when they went out into their outdoor area. A blackbird has decided to build its nest amongst the resources on a shelf in the outside play area.  The nest is clearly visible and made beautifully of grass and moss and feathers.  It is just above waist height so the children can easily see into it which will be ideal if and when the baby blackbirds hatch. It is positioned under the canopy so is in the dry and we have never seen cats in the outside area so we just hope all will be well.

The female blackbird is sitting on four speckled blue eggs and we hope very much that she will manage to incubate them with the children all around her! The incubation period is around 14 days and if all goes well, the baby birds will then fledge around two weeks after hatching. The children are all being really helpful by being quiet and keeping their distance and we will keep our fingers crossed and keep you updated on progress…
