Year 5 Residential Trip to Birmingham, 6-7 June 2019
A letter for all Year 5 parents will be given to children on Thursday 22 November regarding this trip.
This year, we have arranged to take the Year 5 pupils, along with their peers from our HMFA schools on an exciting trip to Birmingham for their residential. A brief itinerary is as follows:
Thursday 6 June
- Depart from Sutton Primary Academy at approximately 8.30am
- Arrive at BBC studios at The Mailbox – tour behind the scenes of Midlands Today, The Archers and many more with lots of information on how both radio and online productions are created and brought to life on your TV, radio and iPad
- Packed lunch (not provided)
- Travel to accommodation – Hatters Hostel, Birmingham
- Dinner out
- Evening theatre performance at the wonderful Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre situated in the Chinese Quarter in Birmingham city centre
Friday 7 June
- Breakfast at accommodation
- Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum. We will be seeing steam engines through to talking robots, gurgling guts and a chocolate wrapping machine and with over 200 hands-on exhibits, this will be an exciting visit
- Packed lunch provided
- Cadbury’s World – we will be taking part in a tour and talk about the heritage of the nation’s favourite chocolate brand including chocolate making and a 4D chocolate cinema experience, in fact anything chocolate!
- Return to Sutton Primary Academy for approximately 7pm
All tickets, food, drink, accommodation, and insurance is included in the price. Children will be required to bring their own packed lunch on Thursday.
The trip has been booked through The School Travel Company who are a well-known educational tour operator. They make safety on a school trip first priority with the accommodation and coaches they use safety audited on a regular basis to the highest standards – they are assured members of the School Travel Forum and comply with their code and practice. We have used The School Travel company on previous residential trips and are delighted with their attention to details and enthusiasm for the children.
The cost of the trip is £170.00 and this will be due as follows:

- A £30 deposit is due on or before Friday 30 November 2018. Please return this with the slip attached. This deposit is non-refundable. Payments MUST be in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, class, amount enclosed and name of the trip.
- A further £80 is due by Friday 25 January 2019.
- The remaining balance of £60 is due by Friday 22 March 2019.

Any cancellations within 10 weeks of departure will result in the company retaining a percentage of the cost. Please see the following statement:
“If you choose to withdraw your child from the trip and we are unable to find a suitable replacement for their place then the following cancellation charges will apply:
More than 10 weeks before departure: School Travel Company will retain first and second deposits per paying person cancelling.
69-22 days before departure: they retain 75% of the full price per paying person cancelling.
21 days or less: they retain 100% of the full price per paying person cancelling.”
