As usual the School Council Representatives have provided their news report:

Class 1 News

In Literacy, the children are writing instructions on how to look after their pet dinosaur. They have also been looking at prefixes and suffixes and how these change a root word.

In Numeracy, the children have been finishing off looking at 2D and 3D shapes and their properties and have moved onto measuring using standard and non-standard measures. They have also been using words to compare different measures of length.

In Science, the children have been looking at the changes as spring approaches and looking at the different flowers that have begun to grow around them. They have made studies of what they have observed about their different structures.

In Topic, the children have looked further about how people have found out about dinosaurs by studying Mary Anning and her fossil finds at Lyme Regis.

In Art, the children are going to be creating clay models of their dinosaurs!

In PSHE, the children have been looking at how to look after themselves and keep fit and healthy by learning about sleep.

Class 2 News

In Maths, the children have been learning about position direction, repeating patterns, making different turns and they’ve been writing instructions on how to do this.

In English, the children have been looking at noun phrases and writing their own! They’ve also been writing their own similes and soon, they’ll be doing a description of Max’s room in Where the Wild Things Are!

In Topic, the children have been thinking of what things they would take on a Safari adventure!! They’ve also been writing clues to describe an African animal. Exciting!!!

In Science, the children have been looking at materials and what things are made of and why!

Class 3 News

In English, the children have been enjoying doing tests on www.spag.com. They have also been doing more English music comprehension based on ‘Something Just Like This’ by the Chainsmokers and Coldplay.  As well as this, you may know that their English topic has changed from the Highwayman to ‘Journey to the River Sea.’ This is based around the rainforest so it matches our topic very well! They were also learning about pronouns and they are very good.

In Maths, Year 4/5 has been doing symmetry; the Year 6 doing reflection which they are enjoying. They have also been doing negative numbers – the children were very confident in this. Also, they were doing shapes.  Some children also had a go at solveme.edc.org which they have enjoyed!

We take a short break in lessons to discuss about debating. Class 3 went to Whitecross High School to debate in a competition – for fun! Three Year Sixes were the debating team and they did extremely well and Mrs Watkins is very proud of them! They were tied 3rd with everybody else – one school they couldn’t beat, they were so serious!! However, we are all very proud of them and they got a shiny gold medal!

However, we now go back into Class 3 to learn more about their other lessons.

In Topic – which is Geography (The Rainforest) – the children have been learning about other biomes and comparing them to the rainforest. The children really enjoyed this – they are really enjoying their topic too!

In Science, the children have been learning about inherited characteristics! To learn how this works, we got a Mr Men character and a Little Miss character to make a Little Miss/Mr Men character. We noticed the little character had mixed inherited characteristics. We even gave the characters names! We also noticed how inherited characteristics are used in farming, for example, breeding two large cows would result in one very large cow!!! In Art, the children have been drawing rainforest animals – real ones and fake ones!!! We also made our own rainforest patterns. The children have been enjoying Art and are going to be doing it more! We also made our own reptiles from clay!

In Cooking?! Yes cooking, the children have been creating tacos thanks to the donation from Spar – the children are very

happy that they were able to create tacos from Spar’s fresh produce!

Cats Protection Visit!!!

Cats Protection VISITED the school on Monday 5th February 2018! The children listened carefully to advice they got about looking after their cats! It seems like ½ of the children in Kings Caple Primary Academy have a cat. They enjoyed the visit and the really cute cat photos! Also, you can see some of the photos from the Ross Gazette in the newspaper.

Thank you for reading this week’s Kings Caple Primary Academy News Report!

Enjoy your weekend!
