Kings Caple Primary had a really enjoyable and informative visit from ‘The Nomadic Museum of Natural History‘ last week. The museum is a combination of street theatre and education tool. Formulated out of an idea of a ‘Cabinet of Curiosity’ and the plethora of natural history items, it is a 1m long transportable natural history museum. It is part of Hidden Herefordshire which aims to connect people both young and old with recording wildlife wherever they are. It is a partnership between CLAN ( Cultivating Learning and Nature CIC ) and the Herefordshire Biological Records Centre who in turn, have a vision to enhance people’s knowledge of the natural world by being immersed in it.

The children loved exploring the contents of the museum which included items such as skulls, fossils, shells, models, insects and even poo. It engaged their curiosity, encouraged them to ask questions and fed their interest in the wider natural world. After exploring the museum it was time to wrap up warm, pull on our wellies and embark on a bug hunt around the school grounds where we found and identified lots of insects and creepy crawlies hidden amongst the puddles, plants, grass and bark.
