Class 1 have really enjoyed starting their topic of The Great Fire of London and have looked at paintings from the time to find out what London was like in 1666.  The children have started to explore the timeline of events and the impact the fire had and the changes that came about after the fire.  In art the children have used pastels and explored the use of colour in Lowry’s landscapes, creating their own versions of the ‘Yachts.’

As part of our science investigations the class have conducted an experiment into the absorbency of different materials the Little Pigs used to build their houses.  After predicting wood would absorb the most water they were surprised by the results!

In English we have looked at different ways to describe a character and written descriptions for the little pigs and the Big Bad Wolf, creating wanted posters.  Reception have started learning their sounds and are beginning to blend words with the sounds they have covered so far.  In maths the children are just coming to the end of their work on place value and numbers.  They have compared numbers and partitioned numbers, increasing their maths vocabulary to talk about numbers.
