In maths, children have been working on our new topic ‘position and direction’. They have identified the different points of a compass and how they might be useful. Pupils have learnt various vocabulary relating to movement and followed instructions to create a route. They have used and plotted coordinates in the first quadrant and have started to distinguish between clockwise and anti – clockwise. Children will look at full turns, half turns and quarter turns next in relation to the position of objects.
In English, pupils have been writing poetry and started with a spring themed acrostic poem. Children have looked at alliteration and its effect in writing. They have written their own riddle and free verse poems using adjectives to build up imagery. Children will move on to writing their own haiku and shape poems next.
In topic, children have looked at the traditions of the Masaai tribe and how they live from the land. They have designed their own national parks and used a key to map important features in their game reserve.
In RE, pupils have looked at the festivals of the Passover and Rosh Hashanah and their religious significance to the Jewish community. We have looked at how these are celebrated in the synagogue and at home.
In science, children have identified the five different food groups and how they contribute to eating a healthy diet. They have created a menu and analysed their own eating habits across a given week.
In art, pupils have designed and made their own African tribal masks.
