Class 2… A Catch Up

Favicon

In English, children have been learning our new model text ‘The Magic Brush’ and have created some wonderful story maps to help them recall the story orally.  Our focus is on dialogue this term and how we can incorporate this into story writing to give an insight of how characters feel by what they say and how they say it.  Children will write a setting description using some varied, exciting adjectives and identify the role of adjectives in sentences.  SPAG sessions will focus on speech marks, time connectives, exclamatory sentences, commas in lists and adverbs in this unit of work.

In maths, children will be studying measures and will focus on length.  Pupils will decide which measuring tools are appropriate for measuring a varied selection of things and what length is measured in.  They will order, compare, add and subtract various measures also.  Pupils will have the opportunity to estimate the length of different classroom objects, before measuring them for themselves.

In RE, pupils have focussed on reading Christian and Islamic stories in order to explore the messages within them.  They have studied their religious significance to believers and how they can help followers lead a more fulfilling life themselves.

In French, pupils have learnt and recapped vocabulary related to the days of the week, months of the year and numbers to twenty.  They have also written sentences explaining what they would like to order ‘At The Cafe’ and role played a few scenarios with the new, modelled language.

In science, children have looked at the suitability of various materials and will next conduct an experiment on which material will be the best choice for Teddy’s umbrella.

In topic, children have started their Romans unit of work by writing what they already know and what they wish to find out over the coming term on the Romans. They have mapped and located the countries which fell to Roman rule using atlases and investigated Caesar’s role in the first invasions of Britain.  Pupils have ordered the emperors on a timeline and will explore the life of Roman soldiers next.  Children will also look at the role of coins in Roman times.
